Welcome to the Curators of Horror.
SPEAKER_00Every still me up with his eyes. Because I may have started to yawn when he pressed record.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Well not even when I pressed record, when I was just about to start speaking.
SPEAKER_00I didn't mean to. You can't control the yawn. Sometimes they just come. And now I've like got this really weird feeling of only having had half a yawn and I don't like it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I was thinking like, should I wait for you to finish the yawn? Yeah. I feel like it's there now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's there. I'm so sorry if you caught my yawn from listening to this podcast. I was working hard today. I deserve that yawn. I earned that yawn, I tell you.
SPEAKER_02We've just finished absolutely stuffing our faces with McDonald's.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god, why would you tell why would you tell the good people that?
SPEAKER_02Because this is about being real. Oh man. Gotta show ourselves warts and all.
SPEAKER_00I mean, you can show your warts and all. I regret my choices.
SPEAKER_02It was delicious. But now it's not a good thing.
SPEAKER_00It's one of those things that is like so good, and you're like, yeah. And then when you eat it, even kind of when you're eating it, you're like, this was a bad choice. And then afterwards you know for a fact it was a bad choice. But you know it felt good at the time.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. How you doing?
SPEAKER_00Yawny. All right, you know. A bit a bit yawny.
SPEAKER_02You sound a bit uh congested.
SPEAKER_00Well, I'm not allowed to sniff either. Like I tried to sniff before we started the podcast to clear the old tubes, and Hemriss was like, that is the most disgusting thing I have ever heard. And he actually sounded just like that.
SPEAKER_02Like Carmen.
SPEAKER_00So I'm not allowed to yawn and I'm not allowed to sniff. So if I sound blocked up, deal with that.
SPEAKER_02That's definitely not my fault. That was very sibilant of you.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. How are you?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm good. I feel very full. Um but otherwise good. I'm really uh really kind of embarrassed to say this, but I'm uh Katie sucked me into another reality TV sensation. Yep. We've been watching The Circle.
SPEAKER_00Oh yes.
SPEAKER_02And we've we've just polished off the first no, was it the third? The third series in the in the UK and we're watching the first US series.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we headed straight over to Netflix and got that US series going. Yeah. And although it didn't have the same glow that the British one did, we are now fully invested.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, damn it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it happens, you know. That's the thing about reality TV. You give it a couple of episodes and you are invested whether you like it or not.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Well, like the most of the great British public at the moment, I am also obsessed with line of duty.
SPEAKER_00Coppers.
SPEAKER_02Coppers. Ben Coppers. Coppers. But uh Katie was so tired last night when the penultimate episode of the current series was on that she fell asleep and missed the entire thing.
SPEAKER_00I did.
SPEAKER_02I can't believe you fell asleep in line of duty. It's so gripping.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I was up at 5 a.m. with our dog. Yeah. So that's why.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You know, people say, you know, you'll lose sleep because of your children. Now I'm losing sleep because of my fur child.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Bless his little heart.
SPEAKER_02He's doing much better though.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's not his fault. You can't he can't tell me in his human words when he's not feeling well. His human words. Yeah, those are the ones he uses in my head. Yeah, he just looked at me and I knew something wasn't right. Poor little bean.
SPEAKER_02Little bean.
SPEAKER_00He's feeling a lot better now, so hopefully I can get some good sleep tonight. I didn't actually sleep last night, even, properly, because I was worried that he would wake up again, so that made me wake up more.
SPEAKER_02You told me that, but you also told me that you couldn't sleep because you couldn't choose a movie for our next two guests.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And now you have.
SPEAKER_00I have, but I'm not happy about it. Just so you know, dear listener. Not happy about it.
SPEAKER_02I think it's about time that we hand over to Voiceover Man and hear who is our next victim.
SPEAKER_01Our next victim is Petrified Horror Hater. Steph. For the few horror movies Steph has seen, she hides behind a pillow. Nervously talks throughout the film to reassure herself and screams. Steph asked our curators to go easy on her. But will they be considerate or will they be cruel to be kind? Find out on the next episode of The Curators of Horror.
SPEAKER_02I can't remember whose turn it is to go first. I'm gonna have to look at our last one because I can't remember.
SPEAKER_00Riveting content.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00Audio medium.
SPEAKER_02Okay, it is your turn to go first.
SPEAKER_00My turn to go first.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_00Yum. Yum. Uh so yeah, I have struggled. I've struggled for our next two picks. I just think my um selection tools have gone a bit rusty. Tools. Yeah, tools. Yeah. Um, but I did I am actually quite content with this choice. I feel like it's something that I didn't pick because it walks the line a little bit, and I don't like things that walk the line too much, as you know. But I am happy with it. I don't know if you've actually ever seen this film, which is intriguing.
SPEAKER_02I always like an excuse to have a new horror enter my selection collection.
SPEAKER_00Your selection collection.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_00Fantastic. Well with this, I decided to take it a wee bit back. Just a wee bit. A teeny bit. Just a teeny bit back. A weeny bit back.
SPEAKER_02Oh dear.
SPEAKER_00I mean, it came out before we got married, so that's taken it back a little bit. But yeah, interested if you actually have seen this film or not.
SPEAKER_02I'm excited to hear what it is.
SPEAKER_00We're going back to 2013. With the uh horror comedy Warm Bodies.
SPEAKER_02No, I don't think I have seen it. Yeah. This is zombies, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You picked a zombie film?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I told you, my selection tool's gone wonky.
SPEAKER_02It really has. Yeah, but So this is Nicholas Holt. It is indeed. And Teresa Palmer.
SPEAKER_00Based on the book of the same title. Hmm.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Well, I've not seen it. I like comedy, I like horror. I'm uh I'm excited. I like zombies, I'm excited. That all of these things are good for me, but will they be good for our next victim?
SPEAKER_00I think so.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00But you know, we'll see, won't we?
SPEAKER_02We will indeed.
SPEAKER_00Me and my wonky tool.
SPEAKER_02Wouldn't it go around shouting about that? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Probably looks more poorly on you than it does on me, doesn't it?
SPEAKER_02Aww. What if I said wonky my wonky tool?
SPEAKER_00No, if I'm talking about my wonky tool, we are married after all.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Okay. Oh, alright, okay. It took me a little while to get where you were going there. Yeah, I got it.
SPEAKER_00I might be the yawny one, but you're definitely a bit slow today. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I'm sorry. Alright, well, um, do you want to hear what I've uh curated for our next victim? Oh, come on.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I really do. Oh my god, yes.
SPEAKER_02That's more like tell me. Well, like you, I've gone for something that a little bit walks the line, but I think uncharacteristically I've gone closer to the horror side of the line than you have.
SPEAKER_00Oh, intriguing.
SPEAKER_02So I've picked not going back not taking it back very far at all, uh, 2019's The Room. Oh not to be confused with The Room by Tommy Wiseau or Room, that one about the boy and his mum that are stuck in a room. This is a different film.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, this is that other film that we watched.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_00I was thinking that you would pick the one about the the the little boy growing up in a room then, and I was like, really? You think that that's a horrible?
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_00I was like, it's pretty horrific, I'll give you that, but no.
SPEAKER_02This is 2019's The Room, very specifically. The Room. Yes. Not room.
SPEAKER_00The room.
SPEAKER_02But also not The Room by Tommy Wiseo. Not that one either.
SPEAKER_00Sounds like I can't say M's at the moment. The robe.
SPEAKER_02The Rube. It's like a biscuit as a B. The Rube. The Rube.
SPEAKER_00I'm trying to say room.
SPEAKER_02Oh dear. Oh bless you. Um shall we tell our listeners where they can watch these movies?
SPEAKER_00Why not? Well, dear listeners, if you fancy checking out Warm Bodies before our next episode, if you're based in the UK and you fancy checking out Warm Bodies before our next episode, you can check it out on Amazon Prime, streaming on Amazon Prime and Plex. You can also rent and buy it on Amazon, Chili, YouTube, and um Apple. So, you know, check it out. It's worth a watch. If you are across the pond in the US of A, you can also rent and buy it from various places, including Redbox, Amazon, Apple, YouTube, Fandango Now, and Voodoo. So, you know, you do you.
SPEAKER_02Well, if you want to check out The Room 2019, I'm just being really, really clear about that because I don't want you guys to all call it watch the wrong film.
SPEAKER_00I mean, you should watch the wrong film just for just for the first time.
SPEAKER_02Both of those other films that we've referenced are good, but they're not the one that we're going to be talking about.
SPEAKER_002019 The Room.
SPEAKER_02Yes. Uh so if you're in the United States, you can stream The Room 2019 on DirecTV, Shudder, and AMC Plus, and you can buy and rent it from Amazon, Voodoo, YouTube, and Fandango Now. And if you are in the United Kingdom and you'd like to watch The Room 2019, you can only watch it in one place, which is you can stream it on Shudder.
SPEAKER_00It's a Shudder original, I think, isn't it?
SPEAKER_02And if you have not experienced Shudder, or if you have the ability to create a second email address, you can have a seven-day free trial so you can watch this movie gratis for free. Uh yeah, check it out.
SPEAKER_00Definitely didn't just give people advice to set up another email so they could get things for free, didn't they?
SPEAKER_02I don't think there's anything illegal about that. That's a loophole, right? I'm pretty sure that's a loophole and that's fine.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Nice. Okay. Well, I'm just I'm trying to think about how these two films pair with each other. It's difficult because I've only seen one of them.
SPEAKER_00I've seen both. I'm I'm intrigued to see how you got to the room to be the room. Uh to be honest with you, because yeah, that that shit is dark, man. So we'll we'll we'll see. I I know entirely why I've picked mine, because I picked it with my own brain and everything.
SPEAKER_02Oh, well done, brain.
SPEAKER_00I know. Yeah. Good for you, brain. But uh, but yeah, it'll be interesting, and I'm looking forward to watching these films again because I was entertained by them both.
unknownHmm.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, well, I'm happy to watch a new film, and uh of the film that I chose I enjoyed a lot when we watched it as well. We've only seen it the one time though, so it'll be good to check it out again. And we have an important message to share with you listeners. We are going to be slightly adjusting the pacing of our episodes going forward.
SPEAKER_00Dun dun dun.
SPEAKER_02So you will now get a curation like this one that you're getting in your ears right now, and then you will wait two weeks until you get your main episode.
SPEAKER_00You will then hear you shiver with anticipation.
SPEAKER_02You will then uh have another two weeks will pass before you get your next curation and so on and so forth. Yeah. We're very, very keen to continue to bring you horrific curations. But we just need a little bit more time, you know. The the life is happening.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, the world is restarting. We were completely locked down for a whole year, basically, and we had nothing but time. Yeah, so now we'd kinda like to go and experience the world that we've been missing. You know, all very, very gently, you know, dip a toe in. Yeah. A socially distanced toe into the world. An anti-backed, socially distanced, mask-wearing, hopefully, one day vaccinated toe into the pool of the world.
SPEAKER_02So I'm sure you'll be doing the same. And if you do have any spare time on your hands, then take the time to check out Warm Bodies and The Room 2019. And join us two weeks from now when we'll be back discussing those movies and much more. I don't actually know what else more we'll be discussing, but you know, it sounded good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
