Welcome to the curators of horror.
SPEAKER_02Hi, and welcome to Horror ASMR. Can you imagine if there was horror ASMR?
SPEAKER_01I feel like that'd be really confusing.
SPEAKER_02Like people, you know, because it's it's it's I do indulge in a little bit of ASMR, my dear listeners.
SPEAKER_01I freaking love it. You're a little bit addicted to it.
SPEAKER_02I love it. Well, it turns my brain off, it's very relaxing. I'm one of those people. Um yeah, I I enjoy it. Um but all that to one side, something that I often see people commenting on ASMR kind of videos is that they're like, we're so trusting of this person. Imagine if just in the middle of the video they just started screaming at the top of their lungs, they'd kill us all type thing. Which they don't do, thank goodness. But that's basically what horror ASMR would be. It would be all like, you know, tapping on like chains and knives and you know other various horror memorabilia, but the entire time you'd be on edge because you'd be just be waiting for the gut-wrenching screams to start. So you'd just be like, This is wrong. I don't think it would work very well.
SPEAKER_01I feel like you've just inspired a new generation of internet trolls.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, probably. Yeah, I think so. People setting up like this is ASMR, and then you watch it and it's just like in the middle of it. Yeah. That would not be good. Don't do that.
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_02Don't do that.
SPEAKER_01I think you've succeeded in finding the one place that horror doesn't work.
SPEAKER_02I mean, yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's impressive.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. But you know, even if you enjoy ASMR, you can enjoy horror.
SPEAKER_01It's true.
SPEAKER_02It's all about balance, my friend.
SPEAKER_01Life is all about balance.
SPEAKER_02All about balance. So you might like listening to people brush microphones of an evening, but that doesn't mean that you don't enjoy watching someone get killed with a hacksaw.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So And you do both of those on the regs.
SPEAKER_02Right now, on the regs. Yas. Anyway. How are you doing?
SPEAKER_01Uh yeah, I'm good. I'm good. Um I really I feel like we're I don't know if it's just because we're still in lockdown and we can't go out and all of that business. But I feel like we don't watch any horror recreationally anymore.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think to be fair I mean, without going into the the situation in England, this is our third time in lockdown, and we've basically been in lockdown for about four months, and that is that's a long time, and I feel like the world has become a pretty bleak, dark place, and therefore, you know, I think towards the start of lockdown, we were indulging in bleak dark things because it kind of it's like this sense of well, it could be worse, you know what I mean? But now I'm just like I can't deal with it, I can't deal with it being any worse. I really, really can't. There was a John Oliver thing about talking about what the next pandemic will be, and genuinely I was like, I can't even watch it. Switched off for the whole thing, couldn't deal with it. I was like, I can't cope with you telling me that this is probably gonna happen again in our lifetime because I can't deal with the fact that it's still happening now. And I can't imagine that I would be the only person who felt like that, but yeah, so you know, we've been watching a lot of trashy TV, a lot of turn your brain off TV, a lot of light-hearted television in comparison with our kind of you know, bleak ass lives. Yeah, but um I think it's quite refreshing actually because having the podcast back again for our second season, huzzar, means that you know we're watching films and things that we wouldn't necessarily choose, and that's that's pretty cool, I think, because it's giving us a slightly more varied horror intake, and because we're not watching it recreationally for ourselves, it means that we're just focused on on this, which is nice. I like it.
SPEAKER_01I just feel like my list of horror films that I want to watch at some point is getting so long that I'm just like, I'm probably never gonna watch that one. Well, yeah, I don't know.
SPEAKER_02There will come a time when we're once allowed out of the house again, when we just decide that we want to stay home and watch shit films. It's gonna happen and we'll have that choice. Rather than I think because now we don't have the choice, we would rather do anything than stay indoors and watch films. But you know, as soon as as soon as that door opens, we'll be like, aha, now I can choose to stay in and do nothing, except that you can never do nothing when you have a small child, but you know.
SPEAKER_01Talking of people who also have small children, let's hear a little bit about our next victim. Adam.
SPEAKER_00Our next victim is horror fiction enthusiast Duncan. Lover of Goosebumps, Point Horror, and Stephen King, Duncan delved into horror fiction before discovering horror movies. Duncan definitely favours being scared but not sickened. He loves a taste of dread, but also wants to be able to keep his dinner found. Find out on the next episode of The Curators of Horror.

SPEAKER_01Donuts to you, sonny. Alright, well, it's your turn to go first this week. So uh let's reveal the movies that we have curated for Duncan.
SPEAKER_02Are you nervous?
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Ah, that's that's positive then. So I don't have to be worried. Guess what?
SPEAKER_01What?
SPEAKER_02I'm taking it back. Oh I'm taking it back to one of the best times for horror films. Taking it back to 1983.
SPEAKER_01Ooh, in the eighties. That's my favourite decade of horror.
SPEAKER_02I thought we were gonna say that's my favourite decade, and I was gonna be like, you weren't alive for half of it.
SPEAKER_01That's true.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, I'm taking it back to 1983 with the masterpiece that is Kujo.
SPEAKER_01Talking of horror films that have been on my list for a long time that I've never seen.
SPEAKER_02You've never seen it.
SPEAKER_01I've never seen it.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, I'm gonna have oh wow, okay. Emrest.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02It's not very nice.
SPEAKER_01I know. I've not not seen it for any good reason. It's just one that that has uh escaped me until now. But you know it's about a little doggy. I do. It's a nasty little doggy. Is he called Cujo?
SPEAKER_02Yes. Poor poor Cujo. I feel a lot of empathy for Cujo.
SPEAKER_01We're gonna have to put Role out of the room when we watch that. He's gonna go nuts.
SPEAKER_02Or we'll just have to watch it with headphones on.
SPEAKER_01That's a better idea.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so that he can't hear. Yes.
SPEAKER_01That's very smart.
SPEAKER_02Yes, I think so. Because I don't like it.
SPEAKER_01We also still need to watch the live action Lady in the tramp film, which we've tried to watch a couple of times, and every time we watch it, Roley goes mad. But why didn't we do that with that film? So now we can.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we can. I mean, it's a very different doggy film to Cujo, but you know. It's true. Yeah, Cujo doesn't talk either. He never tells his side of the story.
SPEAKER_01Oh, disappointing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, very, very disappointing.
SPEAKER_01Oh, cool. I'm very happy with that. Like I said, I haven't seen it, but it's one I've wanted to see for a very long time. Nice. And uh I think it's a good choice.
SPEAKER_02Oh, thank you very much.
SPEAKER_01Based on what I know about it.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01Do you want to know what I've chosen? Okay. Okay. Okay. So I am not taking it back very far at all.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I think I know what you're gonna pick.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I genuinely think that your film is what my second choice film was gonna be because I thought you'd be going down the same route as me.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02And if it is true, anyway, go on.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um the film that I have chosen for our next victim, Duncan, is 2019's Doctor Sleep.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay. No, that's fine. I'll watch that. I mean, it's um yeah, but I'll watch it.
SPEAKER_01What did you think I was gonna say?
SPEAKER_02I thought you were gonna say colour out of space, and I was like, I'm not watching that again.
SPEAKER_01We've done that one before.
SPEAKER_02No, we haven't.
SPEAKER_01Well we've not given it to someone, but I think we I would count that. We did a whole episode on that. I don't think we're gonna do that one again. Yeah, no. And also I wouldn't do that to you.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I was like, I was I was literally gonna be like, I am not watching it. You can watch it again, but I am not gonna sit through that film again.
SPEAKER_01I also don't think that would have been a good pick for our next victim, so I definitely wasn't gonna pick that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, well. I'll tell you why it would be a good choice after we've finished. But no, I'm I'm okay, yeah. Doctor Sleep. Yes. The Disney version of the shining. Yeah. Yeah?
SPEAKER_01Did I say that or did you say that?
SPEAKER_02Of course I said that. Do you really think that that would be something that you would say? Something I came up with. Yeah. Okay. I Disney presents the shining, aka Doctor Sleep.
SPEAKER_01I enjoyed Doctor Sleep. I've only seen it the one time, and I wanted to watch it again, and I think it lines up pretty nicely for this next video.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no, I I agree, and I also am excited to try and work out why Magic Kat is in it for five seconds, you know.
SPEAKER_01Magic cat.
SPEAKER_03You're gonna die. Magic cat. You're now dead. Magic cat.
SPEAKER_01I don't know why you're in this.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, you shouldn't be in this film.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um so yeah, apparently we do little bits from musicals in our curation episodes now. It's the second week in a row.
SPEAKER_02That's that's a pretty obscure one though. So you get a gold star if you get that one. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01If you didn't know, it's the 25th annual Putnam County Spelling B. Yes, it is. Nice!
SPEAKER_02Yeah, again, a very good pairing. I agree. This is a second curation in a row where we've had like a really good pairing of films that complement each other but are quite different.
SPEAKER_01Agreed, and one's got a cat in it and the other one's got a dog in it. Yeah, so you know, it's not just about what movie you liked more, it's also apparently about if you're a cat person or a dog person.
SPEAKER_02You should totally name the episode Raining Cats and Dogs.
SPEAKER_01Maybe I will. Right, let's tell our lovely listeners where they can watch these movies so that next week, when we're talking about them, they can be like, I've seen that, it was good. It was good or I didn't like it at all.
SPEAKER_02Or I just completely disagree with everything they're saying about this film. Which you might do because you're entitled to your own opinion. Um but if you are from the UK and you would like to check out Cujo, um, you can rent it or buy it uh on Amazon, YouTube or Apple. Uh if you are in the United States of America, you can stream it currently from Amazon Prime, Hulu Direct TV, and Epics. So it's available in lots and lots and lots of different places, particularly if you're in the US. And if you're a fan of a bit of 80s horror, it's a nasty one. I think you'll like it. It's yeah, it it's it's very it's a hard watch, it's not an easy watch.
SPEAKER_01Is it harder to watch if you have a dog?
SPEAKER_02Oh, definitely. If you've just known a dog, if you like dogs, if you've seen a dog in the street and it smiled at you as they are want to do, you know. I've never met a dog I didn't like, put it that way. But yeah, it's difficult. It's difficult to watch if you're a if you're a dog fan. If you're a cat person, you might just be like, eh. But yeah.
SPEAKER_01And if you are struggling going to sleep and want some horror ASMR, you can watch Doctor Sleep. Uh and if you're in the United Kingdom, you can stream it on Sky Go or Now TV. And weirdly, you can't rent it anywhere, I don't know why, but you can buy it from Amazon, Apple, YouTube, and some other places. And if you're in the United States, like everything now, apparently, they're taking over the world. HBO Max, HBO, Direct TV, and HBO of the Amazon Prime Persuasion is the place to stream.
