Welcome to the Curators of Horror.
SPEAKER_01Hello. My name is Katie Matthews and I would like to share with you this most horrific film.
SPEAKER_04Hello. Oh, that was good.
SPEAKER_03I thought you'd like that.
SPEAKER_04I enjoyed that. For those of you who did not recognise it, it's the opening number from a musical called Mormon.
SPEAKER_03If you can name that Mormon, I was gonna say if you can name that musical and it nearly came out of your name that Mormon. If you can name that musical, you get a prize, but you ruined it because you told everyone what the musical was.
SPEAKER_04Well, the prize is you now know the answer.
SPEAKER_03And you should listen to it because it's a brilliant musical. It is. I would say go and go and see it, but unfortunately we still can't go and see things or leave the house or do anything. But you know, hopefully it might be changing soon. And I suppose it depends what part of the world you're in. We here in jolly old England still doing not so jolly old England. Not so jolly old England, fucking depressing England. Still doing sweet FA.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we don't talk about this that often. Um I guess because we're, I don't know, lazy, but Lazy? Well, we have like lots of listeners from all around the world. And we tend to cater more to those in unjolly old England and those in them United States. Yeah. But we're also like really popular in Germany and Singapore recently.
SPEAKER_02I don't know how to say anything.
SPEAKER_04No. Sorry. New Zealand.
SPEAKER_03Uh I mean anything I try and say would like New Zealand. It's gonna and I I love New Zealand. It's it's genuinely, I think, one of the most beautiful places in the world. So hello. If you're listening in New Zealand, that's amazing. Awesome. And Singapore. And Germany.
SPEAKER_04Well done for being in that country.
SPEAKER_03Well, I mean, right now, congratulations, New Zealand.
SPEAKER_04Your leader.
SPEAKER_03You you know how to do things right, that's all I'm saying.
SPEAKER_04But and at the moment, also the Netherlands and the one that uh that consistently remains to be sort of we we we chart well there is Austria.
SPEAKER_03Austria. Yeah. I went on tour in the Netherlands once.
SPEAKER_04Maybe they saw you in that one show you were in and now they've tracked you down and they're just listening to this because of that.
SPEAKER_03I had a I had a lovely time in the Netherlands. Great. Oh, that's so nice. Thank you. Wherever you're listening from, honestly, thank you for listening. We really appreciate it. And um, we've got another couple of fabulous films to talk about. Well, at least I know I've got one. Emirates might be a shithap. Who knows?
SPEAKER_04Whoa. I mean, I think if you look at the scores on the doors so far for this season, you're you know, uh you have considerably more shithes than I do.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but we both know that who's got the better taste out of the two of us just in life. So it's Rolly.
SPEAKER_04I was gonna say it's Rolly. It's Rolly, isn't it? Or our dog. Or our daughter. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03She's got pretty awesome taste. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Great parents.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah. She's she's learnt it from the best. What can I say? I mean, to be perfectly honest, her taste is limited to wearing Christmas jumpers severely out of season. That seems to be her taste of choice at the moment. But she knows. It's February. And I I think to be honest, we could all learn by her and just do what makes you happy. If it makes you happy to dress like a pumpkin, you know, in February, when it's been several months since Halloween, then you do you. And um, I think we should all be more like her. So yeah.
SPEAKER_04I agree. Yep. How are you doing?
SPEAKER_03I'm alright. I'm okay. I actually had a good day today. There's been um I wouldn't say a short supply of good days, but it's it's becoming slightly more difficult to have a consistently good day. Um I think I'm I'm I'm just a bit a bit fatigued, a bit weary. But um but yeah, I'm feeling good, I'm excited and um intrigued as to what you have picked for our next victim. I I do have this feeling in the pit of my stomach that we're gonna go for very similar things. Um, but I always have that feeling, so that's not really any different. And I'm really excited because outside of, you know, horror movie, obsession and love, uh, we have almost finished my re-education and some education within the Marvel universe, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is really I I'm really chuffed because it was like so many films.
SPEAKER_04That's a lot of films, and we've only got three to go.
SPEAKER_03And you know, I am I am a collector and I like to be informed, and I feel like I finally understand what's going on in these films, and also absolutely adoring Wandavision, which we you know, I mean we can't stop talking about Wandavision, but it is the best thing out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as far as I'm concerned. But yeah, we have three more films left to go, and then I'm thoroughly educated and caught up, so I'm feeling pretty proud of myself, not gonna lie. How about you?
SPEAKER_04I am also good. Um I was working today from home still, which is as many of you will know, joyous, especially when you have a small child and a small dog running around when you're trying to do things.
SPEAKER_03Well, it's not their fault that you're working in their house.
SPEAKER_04Exactly.
SPEAKER_03This is their house.
SPEAKER_04This is true. I mean it's my house as well. No, you we just live in it isn't my workplace.
SPEAKER_03It isn't your place of work. No, and um yeah, oh working from home is just adds a whole other element of life to um to to a family home, doesn't it? Guys, we feel you if you're going through the same thing, but you know, other than working from home.
SPEAKER_04Why not distract yourself by watching a horror movie? What horror movie should I watch? I hear you ask. Well, before we answer that question, I think it's about time for us to hear a little bit more about our next victim. So we hand over to our lovely voiceover friend Adam Diggle.
SPEAKER_00Our next victim is Take It or Leave It Horror Plan Anna. A viewing of I Know What You Did Last Summer at age 13 left Anna sleeping with the lights on for quite some time. Anna prefers watching horror movies with friends, or at least she would if we weren't in the middle of a global pandemic. Anna enjoys a wide variety of different movie genres, but is relatively unfamiliar with horror. Can our curators find her jam, or will they end up in a sticky situation? Find out on the next episode of the Curators of Horror.
SPEAKER_04Hey, I feel like we haven't said too much about it, but we we hooked up uh uh with our good friend Mr. Adam Diggle.
SPEAKER_03We most certainly did not hook up with him. I don't think that that is what you were trying to say. I don't know what you've been doing, but you shouldn't have been hooking up with everyone anyone, because we're in lockdown right now.
SPEAKER_04It's very true.
SPEAKER_03You shouldn't even be hooking up with me.
SPEAKER_04It's also adulterous to do that, so it's double bad. Um and not and not what I meant to say.
SPEAKER_03And he is a married man, how dare you!
SPEAKER_04It's just triple bad. Yeah. Um, yeah. We have been fortunate enough to obtain the services of for voiceover only, I should specify, uh, the lovely Adam Diggle who does our um victim introduction bits. We're also going to have his lovely wife as a future victim on the podcast, which we're both excited about as well.
SPEAKER_03Yas. Like collecting married couples so that we can hook up with them.
SPEAKER_04Alright, well, it's my turn to go first this week. So I am going to reveal the movie that I have selected for our next guest. Anna.
SPEAKER_03I'm really scared. I get so nervous. You hate when I go first. I do have a second choice though, if if you if you don't pick if we pick the same film. So yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I've got a backup.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_04I do feel like this might happen. I don't know.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04This is a film that I really like a lot. It's something that I've wanted to talk about on the podcast for a while. I've not been saving it for any particular reason or for a particular person, but it just seemed to line up nicely with our next guest. So for Anna, I have selected the movie Sean of the Dead.
SPEAKER_03Ah, no, I didn't pick that. Oh, okay, good. Yeah. So that's fine.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so super excited to finally talk about this one.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I only actually saw Sean of the Dead for the first time a few years ago. Because I hate zombie movies.
SPEAKER_04If you haven't picked that up already, listeners, you probably haven't been listening for very long.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, unfortunately, I'm not I'm not a big fan of the of the zombie genre. But you couldn't get two more opposite people to talk about them because Amherst absolutely loves a zombie film. Yeah. So we balance each other out. Yeah. Like everything in life. I think so. And Sean of the Dead is is epic. It is it's it kind of changed the shape of cinema in its own way. I don't think that when it was written they fully appreciated just how iconic it was going to be and what it was going to mean for you know the horror genre, the comedy genre, for British film, for so many things. It's it's it's a really great piece of cinema. So I'm very excited to watch that again.
SPEAKER_04Me too. It's been a while. I've I've seen it a lot, but uh, I think because I watched it so much, uh it's been a while, so I'm looking forward to revisiting it myself. But what have you selected for our next victim, Anna?
SPEAKER_03It sounds like you were calling me Anna then.
SPEAKER_04Our next victim, Colon Anna.
SPEAKER_03Colon's funny as well. Uh this sounded like, what who what did you select for our next victim, Anna?
SPEAKER_04And I was like, I'm Katie.
SPEAKER_03Eleven years we've been together. Eleven years. Wow. Come on.
SPEAKER_04I'm gonna make some mistakes, aren't I? Yeah. Thanks.
SPEAKER_03Um, I have gone um down a similar but different avenue. So I have decided that for Anna, I will be picking the 2016 film. The girl with all the gifts.
SPEAKER_04Oh, that's a good choice.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, you see what I did there.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that is a good choice.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I think so. I was pretty happy with that. It kind of you know, I mean, this is the thing. I'm happy with it. She'll probably hate it.
SPEAKER_04I don't know.
SPEAKER_03I don't know. I do, I I'm looking forward to seeing it again.
SPEAKER_04This is definitely one of those picks where I'm thinking, maybe I just went with what something that was a bit too obvious, and you've gone for something that I actually think she's gonna really love.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but that being said, my film is going up against fucking Sean of the Dead, which, like I said, is iconic more than just as a horror film and a comedy film. It's iconic in so many ways. Particularly, I think, for a British viewing audience, it just has so many. I mean, it's got so many great actors in it that you just go, oh, this is brilliant, but it's it's just a great film, and the zombie effects are really nasty in it. That's the thing that I always forget about Sean of the Dead, it's how gruesome it actually is, because you think, oh, it's comedy, it's not gonna be really grim, but it is, and I like that. I like that it's really realistic, gory zombie, but with a you know, eh, whatever kind of take on it, it's great. So, yeah, I mean it could go either way. I just think personally that's a really interesting and fun pairing of films.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I agree. So yeah, another one I've only seen Go with all the gifts uh once, so I I'm quite excited to watch it again. Yeah. Nice. Well, lovely listeners, let's tell you where you can watch these movies if you want to check them out so that when we talk about them next week, you know what we're saying. Uh so if you want to watch Sean of the Dead, and you are in the United Kingdom, it's currently streaming on Netflix.
SPEAKER_03Hey.
SPEAKER_04And also Sky Go.
SPEAKER_03Hey!
SPEAKER_04And also Now TV. Ooh. Yeah. Um and if you don't have any of those and you don't want to get any of those, or if you just fancy renting it, or if you love it and you're like, why don't I own this film already? You can rent it and buy it from Amazon, YouTube, and Apple. And if you're in the United States of America, you can currently stream Sean of the Dead on HBO Max, HBO, Direct TV, and HBO Amazon Prime, which I'm guessing is the same thing. I don't know. I don't live in the show.
SPEAKER_03I think it's like an add-on for Amazon Prime, maybe, that you can pay X. I don't know. Yeah. I'm talking out my arts.
SPEAKER_04We pick some movies for you. You can do if you don't know you want to work out how your streaming services work, that's for you to work out.
SPEAKER_03Use a search engine of your choosing.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. We're not going to choose that for you either.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_04Um, but if you want to rent it or buy it, you can do so from Apple, AMC Theatres on Demand, Amazon, YouTube, Fandango Now, Voodoo, DirecTV, and Redbox.
SPEAKER_03Nice. My film is slightly more obscure and therefore it's not available in so many so many places. No, um, if you want to check out the girl with all the gifts, which I would recommend. I do think it's worth a watch. It's currently streaming in the UK on Amazon Prime, but you can rent it and buy it from Amazon Sky Store Chili, YouTube, and a couple of other random places. Um, if you are based in the US, it's actually streaming on quite a few different places. So currently HBO Max, but also on regular HBO and HBO Amazon Prime video. So again, I have no idea. Um, and Direct TV. Well, you can rent and buy it from Redbox, Amazon, YouTube, um, and I think it's also available to buy um on Voodoo and Fandango now. So it may not be as readily available, but it's definitely still quite readily available. So check it out.
SPEAKER_04Like you've already said, I'm excited to watch both of these movies, and we hope you are too. So join us one week from now where we'll be back discussing Sean of the Dead and the girl with all the gifts.
SPEAKER_02And hopefully, we won't be in such a ridiculous mood then.
SPEAKER_04I hope you bring me all the gifts.
SPEAKER_03Okay, bye. Bye.
